Fourth generation Master Distiller, Robert Fleming, has a great passion for the Scotch whisky industry. The industry has served him very well for almost 50 years. Through hard work and dedication, he has built an enviable reputation for creating the highest quality Scotch whiskies. Robert’s passion extends to being a scholar of Scotch whisky, he delves into the history and heritage of the industry always striving to learn more. This led Robert to set himself a challenge of re-creating an old-style Scotch whisky blend using only the highest quality ex-bourbon American oak casks, which have been used extensively in the Scotch whisky industry since the days of prohibition in the USA.

The challenge was set. Robert was given free rein to pursue his passion and vision. It was not an easy task as very few original recipes existed and of those that did, many of the whiskies in them were no longer available to use. Through Robert's relentless pursuit of perfection, his intuition and commitment to re-create an outstanding old style Scotch whisky blend, he dedicated himself to his challenge.

Robert experimented, meticulously blending various single malt and single grain Scotch whiskies, aging them with care, using the highest quality ex-bourbon American oak casks and tasting every iteration with an unwavering dedication. He understood that the essence of success lay in the harmony of flavours, the balance of traditions, and the pursuit of excellence in cask and whisky selection.

Finally, after trying countless combinations of whiskies, Robert declared himself satisfied for he had achieve his goal, the recreation of an old-style Scotch whisky blend, a masterpiece inspired by a passion and a vision to create something memorable and a nod back to the past.

That nod back to the past, inspired the naming of the blend as MacRoy’s. To remember and honour old Scotch whisky blending companies, such as John MacRoy Limited, because without them, the Scotch whisky industry would not be the success it is today.
